Doodh (Milk) Peda

Now who doesn’t like sweet and silky deserts? And when it’s one of those no “fuss deals, just pop and go types” even better. No sticky sugar syrup dishes, no serving hassles makes way for such simple living! You know what I mean!
So, here’s my little tribute to those soft, velvety milk pedas. A hugely famous Indian sweet that adorns the smallest of the sweet shops to the silver trays of the most lavish weddings. A must at every Indian festival, the humble and modest peda has created a mark of its own.
Now, if you’re one of those who is constantly fighting with time, this one’s born for you. Quick and simple, this microwave recipe makes pedas in exactly 30 minutes and I’m not any close to kidding! And honestly, I also had to put to good use the Nan baby milk powder that’s been lying around as my son doesn’t use it anymore.:) So, read on...
This recipe makes 20-25 medium sized pedas.
Ingredients
2 cups Milk Powder
1 can of Condensed Milk (About 400 grams)
4 to 5 drops of Rose water or a quarter teaspoon of cardamom powder for flavour
100 ml ghee or 125 grams of unsalted melted butter
Method
Pour the melted butter or ghee in a microwave safe dish. Add in the milk powder and the condensed milk. Add the rose water (I’m not a huge cardamom fan and prefer the light sweet rose flavour than the strong cardamom in sweets). But of course, you are welcome to try any additional flavouring agent that you like. I also threw in a couple of ground saffron strands. Mix thoroughly. You could use a hand blender or just a whisk, whatever suits you best. Ensure all the ingredients have been incorporated really well.
Microwave this for a total of 3 minutes removing and stirring the mixture every one minute. At the end of minutes, you will notice the mixture has thickened considerably. Now, leave it to cool for about 15 minutes.
Meanwhile grease a plate in which you wish to place/serve the pedas. Make small balls, roughly the size of a quarter and flatten them gently with your palms. You don’t want to completely flatten them. Perhaps, to about half an inch thickness.
For the purpose of garnishing, you could stick some edible silver foil on the pedas or some raisins and broken nuts, whatever is appealing and inviting to you :)
Cool completely and leave to set in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
