About Us
Join me in simplifying gastronomy while celebrating flavours!

Kookie Kooks owes its inception to my family and friends who have coaxed me into gathering all my little recipes that were until now scattered around in colourful post-its here, there and everywhere.. Yes, my refrigerator being the most decorated!
Cooking never came easy. I was one of those who absolutely detested and dreaded with all my heart, the kitchen and anything remotely associated with it.
When at home, I completely stayed out except for an occasional entry to lend mum a helping hand.
As I moved out and began living on my own, I was forced to fend for myself and that is when I would just about manage to put something together. On good days, they turned out well and on bad, I gave more business to all eating joints around my home...
Getting comfortable with cooking, well, that began post wedding. I suddenly had this earnest desire, like any other wife to be responsible for healthy eating habits in my home. To be able to get my husband to enjoy eating at home whatever he could eat outside and not just the burnt omlettes and the overcooked rice. Like they say, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach...gave me more reasons to buck up.
Slowly, I began with daily frantic calls to my mum borrowing her recipes and trying to get creative with it. Those were times when I myself didn't know what went into my dish. And, if you had asked me for the recipe then, my answer would have been, "I wish I knew". My dishes never tasted the same at every attempt or even worse, everything I made for dinner tasted exactly the same. I thought I needed to enforce some strict quality control measures (yeah, now you know I'm connected with the IT industry).
However, I hung on through all those watery curries, uncooked meat, overdose of chilli and what not! My husband, Saransh, was one person who never stopped believing I could cook. Whatever little I'm able to dish up today is solely because he stood with me in the smoky, burning kitchen encouraging and believing I could make GOOD FOOD, while desperately trying to get the exhaust up and running.
So, that's where it all dates back to and now, I can say I've finally made peace with cooking and all of that associated with it. Here I am with Kookie Kooks to share whatever I've learnt (and oh boy, learnt the hard way! )
I never really thought I'd be doing this at this point in time...the increasing requests for my recipes actually got me to seriously sit and want to save them for future. That's exactly when Saransh and I got down to serious business.
I've been toying with the idea of a website for a while now, but it continued to remain at the backburner. Given the fact I'm at the beck and call of my 10 month old baby boy, Neil all day (and night at times :P), I didn't think I could pull this off.
Time, you see is luxury when your a mum to a little baby who's just discovered the power of mobility and the wonderful world around him that consists of cables he can tug at, footwear he can chew, cabinets he can wriggle into and everything else his tiny brain compels him to explore...
Kookie Kooks is not one of those fancy, frilly cooking websites. It's going to be a while before I add some bells and whistles. I wish I can scale up to all of that someday, but for now, its more of a place where I can save and share my recipes, interact with food connoisseurs and learn myself. If you've always thought cooking was a mammoth task, hugely difficult, tedious and painstaking, then my friend, Kookie Kooks is for you. I've sailed in this boat not so long ago. Hence, the quick and easy recipes I have for you!
Most of my recipes have been handed down to me by mum (who's the best cook I ever will know), borrowed from family and friends, cook books, websites, originated on my Eureka days (when I'm extremely experimental, which at times, is only detrimental) and even stolen from places I've dined at ;-) Some nice chefs really give it away! I try to customise it with my own little creativity and what you see and read here is more of my take on some tried and tested recipes. Works well sometimes or goes completely bonkers. Never mind, you win some, you lose some, don't you?
I'd really appreciate if you could take time out to give me feedback. I'm new to this and could do with some helpful advice, suggestions or tips. Hmm, words of praise works great too! :-)
So then, I'm hoping through Kookie Kooks, we all learn something new and continue to enjoy cooking and celebrate flavours...
